Cutting diesel emissions: what your business can claim
Buyers, lenders and landlords increasingly ask what a site emits. If you have removed diesel generation, that is a real and defensible reduction — provided you calculate it from evidence.
Use fuel records, not estimates
Start from litres purchased over a full year before the change. Diesel combustion emits roughly 2.68 kg of CO2 per litre, so annual litres times that factor gives your avoided combustion emissions.
Account for what replaced it
Solar generation is effectively zero-carbon in operation; grid units are not. Subtract the emissions of any extra grid electricity you now buy to get a net figure.
Report what you can prove
Keep the fuel invoices, the commissioning date and your meter readings. A short, verifiable claim is worth more than an ambitious one you cannot support.
